How to ensure that your Business Continuity solutions and response structure meetyour organization’s reality, and that your plans are effective? Validation is a key part of the BCM Lifecycle. Its process provides assurance that your plans and capabilities remain current and fit for purpose and identifies and areas for revision or improvement.

Take this course to learn how to determine your organization's existing level of Business Continuity Management (BCM) programme maturity, and to prepare for, write and execute and assessment or audit. You will also explore how to develop a comprehensive exercise programme to ensure that all elements of the BCM Lifecycle are validated.

Course objectives

By achieving this course, you will:

• learn the elements which make up validation activities and how validation can be carried out on each element of the BCM Lifecycle
• understand how to implement continuous improvement and how to be able to evaluate its implementation
• get experience on planning an exercise programme
• design, prepare and conduct and evaluation of a BCM programme

What you will learn

There should always be a process in place to continually improve the overall level of organizational resilience. Based on the BCI Good Practice Guidelines and reflecting the current global thinking from ISO 22301 and ISO 22398, this 1-day course will provide you in-depth knowledge, strategies and tips to validate your BCP.

Module 1 - Introduction to Validation: Get introduced to the standards and guidelines of the validation stage, continual improvement and PDCA.

Module 2 - Validation within the Business Continuity Lifecycle: Study the overall BCM programme inputs, the annual programme as well as the policy and programme management stages (analysis, design, implementation and validation).

Module 3 - Developing an exercise programme: Learn how to develop an exercise planning and different types of exercises.


Module 4 – Maintenance and Review:
Talk about maintenance, programme outputs and review.

Module 5 – Conducting an Assessment: Conduct an assessment through all the steps (elements to assess, scope of assessment, what you should assess against, developing the assessment, assessment criteria, preparing for an assessment).

The course, as well as instruction, will be practical and 'hands on' allowing students to practice the skills and techniques taught.

Who is this for?

The course targets professionals and BC consultants who want to create, implement and manage the BCM programme as a part of building and improving organizational resilience:

  • organizational resilience consultants who need to create and implement a BCM programme
  • Business Continuity and resilience professionals who are responsible for validating their BCM programme

Requirements

For the Validating your BCM course, no prior trainings is mandatory, although:

  • a minimum of a CBCI or equivalent credential with experience working in an organization in a continuity and resilience related role is helpful
  • prior knowledge in any of these fields is helpful, but a participant will benefit from this training even if he has not attended other trainings

Attestation

All students will receive an official certificate of attendance directly from the BCI after they successfully completed this course.
